About the event
This advanced level course is to help all osteopaths become better equipped to enhance their clinical engagement with women with complex needs, especially in relation to pregnancy, post partum and pelvic health. Lots of anatomy and physiology, lots of osteopathic concepts, and integration of neurophysiology, fluids, organ and somato-visceral integration dynamics, posture and movement from an organ perspective, and women's health across the lifespan (including pregnancy, post partum and menopause / the third age). The four linked programmes cover everything from general urognynaecology and conditions such as endometriosis, to conception, pregnancy, labour and delivery, post partum, pelvic health, scarring, menopause, prolapse, breast problems, and working with older women. This is the SECOND of four linked level 2 units, that can be done together, or as stand alone elements.
It is designed for those who have already begun their journey into women's health. Ideally people will have attended all 4 of the level 1 women's health programmes, but the level 2 courses can be done independantly if you have some prior experience.
This SECOND programme covers complexity in obstetrics / maternity services by osteopaths, including risk, obstetrics complications, and how traumas from past experiences and trauma (even non obstetric ones) can iumpact on the current pregnancy and birth.
Day one includes an indepth analysis of pregnancy physiology, comorbidities, complexities relating to previous surgeries and pathology / experiences and traumas, day two how the dynamics of labour and delivery are organised, the mechanisms involved, what dynamics ostoepaths can consider in preparation for labour and delivery, and how to understand in more depth the variety and complexity of birth related (surgical, assisted or vaginal) issues that can affect the maternal pelvis and global body and sense of self. Day three deepends the understanding of birth related problems, how to udnerstand prolapse and other peblems and how to begin to assess the post partum mum and evaluate urogential and pelvic health.
This course introduces in much more depath how osteopaths can assess the pelvis and includes some of the theory for internal vaginal and rectal assessment. If you wish to learn internal practical assessment, evaluation and management of the post partum pelvis (or the complexities of urogential management), then you must also enrol in the internals programme. This can only be done if you enrol in ALL FOUR of the level 2 programmes. It is part of a complex pelvic certification from the CNMO. That internals programme is in FAR MORE DEPTH than the mummy MOT course, and includes treatment as well as evaluation and includes 3D pelvic and integrated function consdierations in an osteopathic persepctive.
All the level 2 course uses extensive evidence base, introduces new concepts and does not rely on one treatment modality. This course does not teach 'cranial', but instead teaches you how to interact with physiology and the emergent nervous system through applying traditional osteopathic concepts through touch and gentle tissue exploration. For osteopaths - you will be asked for your osteopathic registration after enrolment.
These units form part of the face to face teaching componets of the Certificate and Diploma programmes in Women's Health, delivered by Caroline through her postgraduate College, the CNMO, although you can do them as stand alone CPD events if you wish. For details of that programme, click link for overview pdf on the main events page, or visit cnmo.co.uk
